Brockway
Brockway is located on the
North Shore of
Lake Tahoe and juts out like a point. In the the high area above the homes you will find a fire lookout. A great 1 mile hike and defiantly worth it. The views are 360 degrees. On a warm summer day, I wouldn't be surprised if you catch a glimpse of a hang glider, just hanging in the air on a thermal and taking in the view. Knowing that at some point, the glider would have to settle back down on the warm sand of
Kings Beach. This area also is know as state-line, where the famous Cal-Neva, Tahoe Biltmore and Crystal Bay Casinos are located. You can always catch a show or dinner here if gambling is not your thing.
This area is full of
Lake Tahoe history. Way back in 1869 – 1870 : Billy Campbell and Henry Burke took title to 63 acres surrounding the hot springs and built a hotel and 5 two-room lakeshore cottages. Originally called the "Warm Springs Hotel", Campbell erected a 20-foot square bathhouse over the mineral spring that boiled out of a large rock at Lake Tahoe’s Waters edge. There is a wonderful amount of history here in
Brockway, check out www.brockwaysprings.com/Ourhistory.htm for more info and photos.
Also sharing the name
Brockway, is the
Old Brockway golf course, which boast a lot of history itself. The course meanders through the forest and each link is lined by old majestic pines. If they could only talk, what stories they could tell.
The location of
Brockway creates ease for heading over Highway 431 to Reno or just back a mile or two to Highway 267 that goes over
Brockway summit and leads first to Northstar then to Truckee, which is where you would pick up Interstate 80 to head east to Reno or west to Sacramento. Truly any area around Lake Tahoe has benefits of its own.
